Data Story Overview

My Data story is about Fast Food. However, it is about fast food specifically in California.

Personally, I think the San Francisco area is one of the healthiest regions in California while also being one of the most highly populated areas.

I chose this topic because I live in the San Francisco Area and I wanted to see if where I live is more interested or less interested than other parts of California by researching what parts of California are more intersted in Fast Food. I also looked into which parts of California search "Fast Food restaurants near me" more. As well as California's interest in Fast Food compared to the rest of the states.

Now, I will introduce my three sources I found that reinforced my topic.

My first source is called "Ranking the Places with the Most (and Least) Fast food in America" by the Priceonomics Data Studio. This article has a lot of data on what parts of the cpountry have more Fast Food and what States have more Fast Food. However, the part I focued in on was the part that said which cities have the most Fast Food as well as the least. On that list, San Farancisco and Oakland, the two closest cities to Lafayette, had the eighth and nineth least Fast Food restaurants per 10,000 people. This supports the fact that The San Franciso-Oakland-San Jose Area is one the healthiest parts of the country but also within California.

My next source is called "Southern California is the Fast Food Capital of the World" by Kevin Drum. He was curious about how many Fast Food restaurants were founded in Southern California, so he looked it up and found that California accounts for where 10 of the top 50 Fast Food restaurants were founded, and all of them were founded in Southern California. This means that Northern California is not the spot for founding big Fast Food companies. Which also means Sothern California has more interest in Fast Food which reinforces the idea that the San Francisco-Oakland-San Jose is a part of California that is less interested in Fast Food.

My next source is called "LA Is America's International Fast Food Capital" by Oriana Koren. it explains why LA and Southern California in general is an incubator for all fast food restaurants, not just Taco Bell and McDonald's. It reinforces the fact that Southern California os more intersted in Fast Food then Norhtern California.
